Choosing a Scooter
When selecting a scooter, you will want to consider who will be using it and where. Most standard scooters have a threshold of 250 lbs; however, larger, more heavy-duty scooters can have a threshold of up to 500 lbs.
If the scooter will be used mainly indoors, a three-wheel configuration can give the user more maneuverability in tight spaces. However, if you prefer a 4-wheel configuration, a model with smaller wheels might be an option for indoor use to allow turning in a smaller radius.
If the scooter will be used more for outdoor use, a four-wheel model with larger pneumatic wheels will provide additional comfort, particularly if it is being used on uneven terrain.
How frequently you will need to transport the scooter in a car or van is another consideration. While most models – including full-sized ones – dissemble, the heaviest component may be too heavy to lift into your vehicle, or the largest component may not fit into your trunk. For this reason, you may wish to consider using a larger vehicle such as a van or pickup truck with a powered lift that allows you to put the scooter inside your vehicle without having to disassemble it.
